3rd SDG Anniversary: Bank of Agriculture, UBEC, TETFUND Heads To Receive Award
The International Association of World Peace Advocates IAWPA
has concluded plans to celebrate the UN SDG third anniversary and also recognize Nigerians whose efforts have helped promote
the Sustainable Development Goals thereby helping to promote peace and
development in the country.
The association in a
press statement signed by its Director of Media and Publicity Comrade Nwokoma
Messiah said aside the recognition of 17 governors across the country that have
impacted on their states in terms of the goals, the group will be recognizing other
eminent Nigerians by appointing them Eminent Peace Ambassadors with all
benefits that comes with such appointments.
The Managing Director/
Chief Executive Officer of the Bank Of Agriculture Kabir Mohammed Adamu, Executive
Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission Hammid Bobboyi as well as
the Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Abdullahi Baffa are among
eminent Nigerians that will be recognized by the association for the efforts
they have made in ensuring that the goals encapsulated in the Sustainable Development
Goals are met in their various organisations.
The association which
is an official partner of the United Nations Organisation and a major promoter
of the SDG in the African sub region says with the collaboration of major
stakeholders in the country, Nigeria can meet the set goals before the year
2030. The group said it is doing all it can to ensure that Nigerians are kept
abreast with the objectives of the SDG especially at the policy making levels.
The statement commended
the Bank of Agriculture for helping alleviate poverty and creating employment
for Nigerians in the agricultural sector which has boosted production. “What
the Bank of Agriculture is doing in the agricultural sector will help make
Nigeria a major agricultural hub in the continent and it is imperative that we recognize
such efforts as well as that of the basic and tertiary education heads that are
driving the country to greater heights through people oriented and effective
policies” the statement added.
The Sustainable
Development Goals SDG of the United Nations Organisation came into effect on
the 25th of September 2015 and was signed by member countries of the
global body as a successor to the Millennium Development Goals MDG. The occasion
of the 3rd anniversary is expected to gather lots of Nigerians as
well as members of the diplomatic corps to the event and is expected to be
declared open by the President of the country President Muhammadu Buhari as
well as the president of Ghana His Excellency Nana Akufo- Addo who is the Co-Chair
of the UN SDG Advocates.
