Press Statement: 65th Independence Anniversary of Nigeria
Today, October 1st, 2025, marks a significant milestone in the history of Nigeria as we celebrate our 65th Independence Anniversary.
As the International Spokesman of the International Association of World Peace Advocates (IAWPA), I take this opportunity to reflect on the journey of our great nation since October 1st, 1960.
Nigeria has traversed many milestones, including the tumultuous period of the 1967 civil war and the challenges of military administrations.
However, we have emerged stronger and more resilient, with a renewed commitment to democracy. Since May 29th, 1999, Nigerians have shown remarkable determination in holding on to democratic governance, and for this, we commend the Nigerian people for their unwavering commitment to democratic principles.
As we celebrate this anniversary, we recognize the diversity of our great nation, with over 250 ethnic groups and multiple religions.
Despite these differences, we must come together to promote peace, unity, and sustainable development. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations provide a framework for us to work towards a brighter future, and we call on all stakeholders to join hands in making Nigeria a place where positive virtues thrive.
We believe that Nigeria has great prospects ahead, and with collective effort, we can overcome our challenges and build a prosperous and peaceful nation. We commend the Nigerian government and people for their efforts in promoting peace and development, and we urge all stakeholders to continue working towards a better future for our country.
As we celebrate our 65th Independence Anniversary, let us renew our commitment to peace, unity, and sustainable development. Let us work together to build a Nigeria where every citizen can live in peace, prosperity, and harmony.
Happy 65th Independence Anniversary, Nigeria!
Amb Emmanuel Nkweke
International Spokesman, IAWPA
