2. IAWPA’S OBJECTIVES AT THE STI FORUM 2026
IAWPA entered the Forum with four strategic objectives:
1. Advocate: Place conflict prevention and PeaceTech on the STI Forum agenda as critical for SDG 6, 7, 9, 11, 16, and 17 under review
2. Showcase: Present IAWPA’s PeaceTech Initiative and its 40% reduction in communal violence in Northern Nigeria
3. Partner: Identify technical and funding pathways to build an offline-first PeaceTech app for 15 LGAs
4. Influence: Ensure African grassroots realities inform global STI policy through IAWPA’s ECOSOC platform
3. KEY IAWPA ACTIVITIES AT THE FORUM
A. Official Sessions & Advocacy
P.Amb Kikilemo Kaosarat Omidire delivered IAWPA’s intervention in Thematic Session 3: STI for SDG 16, stressing:
1. Data Gap: Most fragile states lack real-time conflict data. PeaceTech fills this gap for SDG 16.1 monitoring
2. Equitable Innovation: 65% of Northern Nigerians lack internet. AI solutions must be offline-first or they entrench inequality
3. Local Ownership: Technology must be handed to traditional institutions within 24 months to be sustainable
IAWPA’s statement was noted in the Co-Chairs’ Summary under “community-led digital innovations for peace.”
4. KEY TAKEAWAYS & INSIGHTS FROM THE FORUM
1. UN System Demand:: UN agencies are actively seeking scalable, low-cost tech solutions for conflict prevention. PeaceTech fits this need.
2. Donor Appetite: Tech stakeholders are prioritizing “AI for Crisis Response” and want proven pilots in Africa.
3. Africa’s Moment: With Burundi’s President Ndayishimiye as AU Chairperson, African-led peace innovation has unprecedented visibility in 2026.
5. IMPACT & NEXT STEPS FOR IAWPA
Immediate Actions – May-June 2026;
1. Finalize PeaceTech Scale-up Proposal for 15 LGAs in Northern Nigeria
2. Prepare for HLPF July 2026 – P.Amb. Danso Martins Kofi to lead delegation; coordinate with Amb Owuse Ben Samuel on West Africa agenda
