IAWPA APPOINTS P.AMB. DANSO MARTINS KOFI TO LEAD DELEGATION TO UN HIGH-LEVEL POLITICAL FORUM IN NEW YORK
The International Association of World Peace Advocates (IAWPA), a non-governmental organization with Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). has appointed P.AMB. Danso Martins Kofi as Head of Delegation to the United Nations High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development, scheduled to hold in New York in July 2026.
The HLPF is the United Nations’ central platform for follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The 2026 Forum will focus on accelerating action for SDGs under review, with particular attention to SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.
P.AMB. Danso Martins Kofi, who also serves as IAWPA Country Director for Canada, brings extensive multilateral experience to the role. He has attended numerous United Nations conferences, forums, and ECOSOC sessions over the past decade, with a proven track record of advocating for peace, conflict prevention, and African development at the global level.
His appointment reflects IAWPA’s commitment to deploying seasoned advocates with the requisite experience needed to make meaningful impact at high-level UN processes.
Speaking on the appointment, IAWPA International Spokesman P.AMB Emmanuel Nkweke stated:
“P.AMB. Danso Martins Kofi understands the UN system and the urgency of Africa’s peace and development challenges. His leadership of our HLPF delegation ensures that IAWPA’s voice will be strong, credible, and solutions-focused in New York.”
IAWPA is keen to use the HLPF 2026 to raise critical issues that will promote peace and accelerate the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals across Africa.
Under P.AMB Danso Kofi’s leadership, the IAWPA delegation will focus on:
Advocating for Conflict Prevention: Highlighting IAWPA’s PeaceTech Initiative and its proven 40% reduction in communal violence in Northern Nigeria as a model for SDG 16 implementation in fragile settings.
Amplifying African Voices: Ensuring that grassroots realities from Africa inform global SDG policy, in line with the HLPF theme of “leaving no one behind.”
Partnerships for SDG 17: Engaging UN agencies, member states, and donors to scale technology-driven peace and development solutions.
Accountability for SDG 16: Presenting IAWPA’s SDG Dashboard on Performance as a citizen-led tool for tracking peace and justice indicators.
“There can be no sustainable development without peace, and no peace without development,” said P.AMB Emmanuel Nkweke. “Africa has only four years to 2030. The HLPF is where we must demand coordinated political will, equitable financing, and technology transfer to silence the guns and achieve the SDGs. IAWPA will ensure Africa’s peace agenda is heard loud and clear.”
IAWPA has maintained Special Consultative Status with UN ECOSOC since 2019 and participates annually in major UN conferences, including the UN STI Forum, Commission on the Status of Women, and HLPF. The organization operates in 54 African countries and mobilizes over 10,000 Eminent Peace Ambassadors to drive community-led peace and SDG action.
